For over thirty years, Harris has recruited and trained students and professionals from China, and our Chinese alumni now work in diverse industries across the globe to tackle local and global economic and social issues.

We are very pleased to offer a series of virtual panels with our alumni from China to create more learning and networking opportunities to Harris community members. You can view the recordings below. These alumni are great representatives of the Harris culture and rigor. We sincerely appreciate their contributions in their work and to Harris.

Panel 1: Careers in Data Science, Tech and Management in China

Leo Liang, MPP’00, is a seasoned IT and business executive with deep experiences with both traditional industry and the tech industry. As Vice President at JD.com, Inc., the largest retailer in China, Leo oversees Enterprise Application and IT. Previously, Leo was Vice President of Lenovo. During his time at Lenovo, he was one of the core business transformation and IT leaders for Lenovo's globalization initiatives. He also worked as consultant for Accenture and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) in Chicago before he joined Lenovo.

Xiaolong Wu, MPP’13, is now a PhD Candidate at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Xiaolong founded and leads a team to collaborate with Chinese firms on people and business analytics research. Recently, Xiaolong won the 2020 Wharton People Analytics Conference Research Paper Competition. He also received the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation Doctoral Fellowship, the Ronald I. McKinnon Memorial Fellowship, Stanford SIEPR George P. Shultz Scholar Award, as well as numerous other awards. 

Junchen Feng, MPP’11, PhD’17, is now the Director of Data Science Team at 火花思维. Junchen strives to provide modeling solutions to complex business problems. Junchen’s work uses learning analytics to improve pedagogies and build intelligent tutor systems. Previously, Junchen has also worked as the Director of Research at Razor Hedge Investment Management, LLC, and he founded his own education consulting company in 2012. 

Derek Weng, MPP/MBA’16, is the Founder & CEO of LemonBox, which provides customized daily vitamin packs for consumers. After earning his joint degree from Harris, Derek worked as the Senior Business Development Manager at Walmart eCommerce for three years before he founded LemonBox, his third start-up company.

Panel 2: Careers in Finance and Management in China

You Hang, MPP’02, is the Managing Director for International Business Development of China Financial Futures Exchange (CFFEX). He is also on the Board of Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited (PSX) as well as the Board of Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance. At PSX, Mr. You also serves on the Nomination Committee and Listing & Voluntary De-Listing Committee. Prior to CFFEX, Mr. You served in various roles at Shanghai Futures Exchange, Shanghai Industrial Investment (Holding) Co., and Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipality.

Luodan Li, MPP’15 is the Deputy Director at the Data Lab, Harvest Fund Management (嘉实基金). He is also a board member of 金贝塔网络金融科技(深圳)有限公司. After graduating from Harris, Luodan  worked at the Booth School of Business, KitchenNet, Cook County Government, and has assumed many leadership roles.

Panel 3: Careers in Healthcare, Finance, and Public Sector in China

Claire Zhang, MPP’18, and Fulbright Scholar, is passionate about innovations, entrepreneurship, and investments in the fields of healthcare and technology. Claire became an investment associate at SoftBank China Capital post-graduation, and is now working at a USD venture capital fund backed by Fidelity in Shanghai. Her job responsibilities include conducting analysis and portfolio management in various sectors including healthcare facilities, services, devices etc.

Colleen Wang, MPP’14, joined the State Administration of Foreign Exchange as a Healthcare Specialist. Her focus covers U.S.(pharma & biotech) and HK healthcare sectors. During her time at Harris, Colleen explored many interests, including  working with the BGR Group on Government Affairs, National Committee on U.S.-China Relation (NCUCR), as well as the World Bank. 

Yangfan Gao, MPP’16, is the Financing Manager at the Sinochem Group Co., Ltd (中化集团). Yangfan has solid experience in direct and indirect financing and comprehensive understanding of financial risk management. Now transitioning to the private sector, Yangfan is ready to bring her knowledge working in the public sector to her new role.

Mingyi Zhang, MPP’14, joined the China Development Bank (国家开发银行) after graduation. His work focuses on auditing, including audit rectification and program evaluation. CDB is the world’s largest development finance institution, and the largest Chinese bank for financing cooperation, long-term lending and bond issuance. CDB provides medium- to long-term financing facilities that serve China’s major long-term economic and social development strategies.

Panel 4: Careers in Consulting in China

Yuxin Fu, MPP’18, is now an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company. Yuxin has abundant experience working in the consulting industry. While at Harris, she interned at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Accenture, and later at Tencent as a Strategy Analyst.

Wen Yang, MPP’17, has rich experience in the consulting and finance sector. After working at Strategy& (思略特) as an Associate for two years, Wen recently transitioned to American Securities as an Associate. During Wen’s time at Harris, she interned at China Investment Cooperation and CITIC Securities. 

Weichen Hu, MPP’16, joined Strategy& (思略特) as an Associate after graduating from Harris, and she is now a Senior Associate at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). During her time at Harris, had broad internship experience across public and private sector, at UChicago's National Opinion Research Center and the Haitong PE fund.

Panel 5: Careers in Strategy, Start-up and Public Sector Consulting in China

Xiaofan Liu, MPP’18, chose to focus on economic development at Harris. Immediately after graduation, Xiaofan started at Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation as the Economic Development Planner. In 2018, Xiaofan joined the OAI Chicago Southland Program as the Evaluation and Sustainability Consultant. At Harris, Xiaofan also worked for the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development as a Policy Fellow.

Xinyuan Zhang, MPP’17, is dedicated to social sector work. She enjoys empowering people and growing organizations to reach their maximum potential. At Harris, Xinyuan formed a solid foundation in data analytics and marketing analysis. Xinyuan has worked at the Chicago Community Trust, Oxfam America, and Uptake. In 2019, Xinyuan joined TAL (好未来教育) as a Business Analyst. Xinyuan is also a former Teach for China Fellow. 

Lingu Zhong, MPP’17, first joined Strategy& (思略特) as an Associate Consultant, and transitioned to ByteDance in 2018. Lingu mainly works on Product Strategy. While at Harris, Lingu interned at the HCE International LLC, Roland Berger, and China JIC Investment.

Monica Yu, MPP’14, has had the courage to explore and innovate in her career. While at Harris, Monica developed her interest in the fashion industry, especially luxury fur coats and jewelries. After completing the Jewelry Design Class from Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and earning Graduate Diamonds Diploma from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), she established her own jewelry brand— Monica Yu Haute Joaillerie in 2018. Monica Yu Haute Joaillerie now is a thriving online jewelry store and Monica Yu’s maverick design is getting more and more public recognition

Panel 6: Careers in the US across Tech, International Development, Research and Public Sectors

Lin (Crystal) Cong, MPP’14, is the Decision Scientist at Facebook. Previously, Crystal was the Senior Analyst at Groupon, for which she worked cross-functionally with product, engineering, marketing and sales to communicate product performance towards achieving product goals. Crystal also worked at Oracle as the Consultant for Strategic Consulting and Marketing Analytics for two years immediately post-graduation. 

Sihan Mao, MPP’19, currently serves as the Senior Data & Policy Analyst at the City of Pittsburgh, with a focus on Innovation and Performance. While at Harris, Sihan was a student fellow at the Paulson Institute, as well as a Sustainable Cities Intern at United Nations Development Programme. During the summer, Sihan interned at Vanke (Urban Research Institute) and People's Bank of China.

Shenmin Liu, MPP’16, has strong interests in urbanization issues, public finance and land conservation. She joined the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy to conduct research with the focus on land conservation and Chinese conservation programs. She is currently supporting the Lincoln Institute’s Municipal Fiscal Health campaign and Land Value Capture campaign, and researching land conservation and stewardship in China and Asia. While at Harris, Shenmin interned at the World Bank, and her case study of Beijing’s “urban villages” was incorporated into World Bank’s report on China’s urbanization – Urban China: Toward Efficient, Inclusive and Sustainable Urbanization. 

Di Yang, MPP’18, joined the World Bank after graduation. During her time at Harris, Di Yang was a student fellow at the Paulson Institute, and she was also a research assistant in the International Political Economy Lab. Di Yang was also very involved in the Chicago community. While at Harris, she interned at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Chicago Public Schools, as well as the Chicago Department of Public Health.

Panel 7: Careers in Consumer Goods and Management Programs in China

Chen (Andrea) Sui, MPP’19, joined Shell as a Graduate-Staff (G-Staff) member after graduation. Andrea now serves as the Operation Consultant in the O2O Smart Garage Team at Shell downstream lubricants. Her work focuses on digital transformation at levels of retailers and distributors, and operational excellence and innovation for chain workshops. During her time at Harris, Andrea was a research assistant at the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC), while also serving as Social Media & Digital Content Coordinator at Harris. 

Yujia (Iris) Luo, MPP’16, graduated from Harris with an MPP degree in 2016. She joined AB inBev (百威英博) firstly as a Global Management Trainee responsible for key accounts. She is passionate and experienced in sales and channel management of FMCG industry. Right now, she is responsible for road to market management.

Panel 8: Careers in the US in Finance and Healthcare Sectors 

Mengxin (Ivy) Sun, MPP’16, is passionate about data analytics and healthcare policy. After graduation, Ivy joined Northwestern Medicine as an Analytics Consultant. In 2018, Ivy transitioned to private sector and is now the Manager of Strategy & Analytics at Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Ivy was very engaged in the Harris community during her time here: she worked with the Health Economist Tomas Philipson on medical bankruptcy, while also being a Fellow at UChicago Medicine. Ivy won the BCG Case Competition in 2016 and obtained the Certificate in Health Administration & Policy upon graduation. Ivy is also appointed on the Harris Mentor Program Steering Committee. 

Henan Ma, MSESP’17, is an experienced Data Science Analyst with a demonstrated history of working in the finance industry. Upon graduation, Henan worked as an Equity Research Analyst at the Highland Capital Enterprise. In 2018, Henan joined Discover Financial Services serving as the Senior Credit Risk Analyst. Henan fully optimized his time at Harris to work on his professional development: during his studies, Henan worked  at the Argonne National Laboratory as the Economic Analyst in his first year, and took on the Data Analyst role at the World Bank in the second year. Henan was awarded the Dean’s Scholarship.

Henry Liu, MPP’15, is currently working at Goldman Sachs as the Manager of Risk & Analytics. Previously, Henry had worked at Discover Financial Services as Associate Manager of Credit Risk Management and Senior Data Science Analyst. During his time at Harris, Henry was a research assistant in the Political Science Department at UChicago. He interned in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the Washington D.C. Government as well as the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago. Upon graduation, Henry took on a Research Associate role in the Paulson Institute.

Sirui (Sarah) Feng, MSCAPP’17, is an experienced Data Scientist with a focus on healthcare and financial services. Sarah worked as an Analyst at TransUnion for two years. In 2019, Sarah transitioned to a Data Scientist role at Aetna, a CVS Health Company based in New York. While at Harris, Sarah interned at CITIC Trust Co., Ltd., and United Airlines.
