The University of Chicago welcomes gifts from a number of sources, including through donor-advised funds (DAFs). Prior to making a grant recommendation to Harris, please ensure that your intentions meet any guidelines or requirements of your individual donor-advised fund as suggested by your fund’s managers.
Under Internal Revenue Code regulations, a donor-advised fund cannot be used to satisfy a personal obligation (i.e., pledge). Doing so could subject you and the managers of your fund to penalties, including, but not limited to, excise taxes and disqualification of the fund as a tax exempt entity. For additional information or questions, please contact the Office of Gift Planning at 773.702.3130 or giftplan@uchicago.edu.
If needed when making a grant recommendation, provide the TIN (taxpayer identification number) 36-2177139. This TIN may be used for gifts supporting any part of the University, including Harris Public Policy.
The Office of Gift Planning can review your goals, discuss areas you wish to support, draft sample language for your will or trust, and explore giving vehicles that provide lifetime income and tax benefits. Learn more about planned giving options.
