This course will explore the political economy of migration and security, drawing on literature from both political science and economics. The purpose of this course it to familiarize students with a selection of current, policy-relevant research on migration, focusing primarily on international migration with particular attention to the implications for national security. The course will explore various theoretical and empirical models of migration from individual and family choices on migration to coordination of migration policies across countries. Articles will be considered carefully with an emphasis on determining what we can reasonably learn from the presented research as well as on what grounds we should be critical.
