Course # 47610 Day(s) M- W Time(s) 1:30 PM - 2:50 PM Term Winter 2018 This course is designed to provide a theoretical and empirical overview of issues involved in the study of intergenerational mobility in the United States. The course will cover four areas: Distributive justice and the normative evaluation of mobility. Measurement of mobility, both conceptual issues in the measures and an overview of mobility facts for the US Theories and models of intergenerational mobility ranging from family influences to social influences to genes. Roles of different types of public policies in influencing mobility. The course will emphasize the interplay of theory and empirics in understanding the determinants of mobility rates as well as in policy evaluation.
