April 06, 2022 For admitted students joining us for in-person Admitted Student Days April 7–9, we wanted to gather a complete itinerary in one place for your reference. You can use the links below to jump to each day of programming: Thursday, April 7 Friday, April 8 Saturday, April 9 Thursday, April 7 The Keller Center4–4:45 p.m. Check in with Admissions in Keller Center Lobby Proof of vaccination. At the entrance, you will be asked to provide proof of vaccination (physical card or photo is acceptable). Nametag. Then, pick up your nametag with admissions. (Please keep your nametag if you are joining us Friday for expedited check-in!) Luggage. Those with luggage will then be directed to luggage check. Please note, you must reclaim your luggage by 8:30 p.m.! 4:45–5 p.m. Admissions Welcome Welcome address from admissions with Senior Director Jenny Erickson in the Keller Center Forum 5–6 p.m. Reception with current students Gather in the Keller Center Café for a reception and light refreshments with admitted and current students 6–7 p.m. Pre-selected activity You should have received a confirmation email that you are registered for one of the following sessions: another email will be sent 24 hours before the event.: Smart Museum of Art Meet a current student in the front of the Keller Center Lobby to depart for the museum at 6 p.m. See the Bob Thompson: This House Is Mine exhibition. A current student will be attending and will walk the group to the Smart Museum and back to Keller. The Museum is about a 15 minute walk from the Keller Center.(Admission to the Smart Museum is free. In case of inclement weather, students can use a rideshare option such as Uber or Lyft.) Keller Center Trivia Night Stay in the Keller Center Forum and participate in a trivia and game night. (No cost). Mini-Hyde Park Tour and Bookstore Visit Meet at the Keller Center West entrance by the café at 6 p.m. for the tour. Join current students for a walk to see some of the landmarks and visit 57th Street Books on campus. (No cost except if you choose to purchase a book). Please note, in case of inclement weather, this group will be asked to remain in the Keller Center to watch or participate in Trivia Night, or simply mingle with your peers and future classmates 7:30–8:30 p.m. Alumni Dinner Join Harris alumni for dinner at the Keller Center Commons outside of the café. The dinner will be served buffet style and students may eat anywhere in the Keller Center. The dinner environment is casual and an opportunity to connect with peers, classmates, and alumni. Those with luggage, don’t forget to pick it up from the admissions office by 8:30 p.m.! Daniels in the Keller Center Forum 10–11 a.m. Classroom and Faculty Experience You either signed up for or were assigned to one of the following three class sessions. Your session and room number will be printed on your name badge. Katherine Baird, Assistant Instructional Professor Rebecca Wolfe, Senior Lecturer and Executive Director of International Policy & Development Steven Durlauf, Steans Professor in Educational Policy 11:15 a.m.–noon Presentation with John A. List Join John A. List, Associated Faculty and Academic Director, Center for Impact Sciences for a discussion of his new book, The Voltage Effect, which explores how to successfully scale projects. This session takes place in the Keller Center Forum. Noon–1 p.m. Lunch with Current Students Join current students in the Keller Center Commons. MSCAPP students will be directed to a separate lunch. Pearson Fellows will join a hybrid Pearson Connect session, and partners/spouses of admitted students will be directed to a lunch for students with partners and families where you can meet other partners and spouses and share some of your questions with members of the admissions team. 1:10–1:55 p.m. Breakout Session 1 Choose from the following two sessions: Student Services and Diversity & Inclusion session Join Dean of Students Kate Shannon Biddle and Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion Michelle Hoereth (Room 1002) Professional and Career Development session Join Senior Associate Dean of Professional and Career Development Jeremy Edwards (Room 007) 2:05–2:50 p.m. Breakout Session 2 Writing Workshop: “Writing Your One True Sentence” Join Director of the Writing Program David Chrisinger (Room 1002) Professional and Career Development session Join Senior Associate Dean of Professional and Career Development Jeremy Edwards (Room 007) 1–2:50 p.m. Harris Student Organization Resource Fair Our Harris Student Organizations will also be in the Commons during breakouts hosting a Resource Fair. You’ll be able to stop by to chat with students and learn more about their organizations. 3–3:45 p.m. Closing session with Jens Ludwig Hear from Jens Ludwig, Edwin A. and Betty L. Bergman Distinguished Service Professor and Director of the University of Chicago’s Crime Lab. Ludwig's research focuses on the economics of crime, urban poverty, gun violence, and education access. This session takes place in the Keller Center Forum. 4–5 p.m. Closing reception Join current and admitted students for a reception and refreshments in the Keller Center lobby. If you brought luggage, be sure to pick it up from the Admissions Office by 5:30 p.m. Back to top Saturday, April 9 Cloudgate ("The Bean")Join current students for fun Saturday morning activities in Chicago! All Saturday sessions are student-led. Students who sign up will receive student contact information and can reach out to students directly with questions. 10:15–11:30 a.m. Brunch sessions Please note the brunch sessions are now full, but we still have space at the Saturday noon activities Those who signed up for a brunch session will receive confirmation emails from the students hosting 24 hours in advance. Registration for these events was limited and these sessions are currently full. Noon–2 p.m. Lincoln Park Zoo with Current Students Enjoy a visit to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Please note, while admission to the Lincoln Park Zoo is free, you will need to pay your own transportation and food expenses. You will receive a confirmation email from the students hosting 24 hours in advance. Noon–2 p.m. Cloud Gate and Maggie Daley Park with Current Students Join current students for fun Saturday morning activities in Chicago! Enjoy a visit to Chicago's famous Cloud Gate sculpture (fondly nicknamed "the Bean") and a walk through Maggie Daley Park.
