ASAP FOR FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID

DOMESTIC AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS ONLY

The UChicago Student Loan Administration (SLA) provides details about completing your FAFSA and other steps you need to follow to apply federal financial aid. The FAFSA for Autumn 2018 is now available, so we suggest eligible students complete a FAFSA as soon as possible, ideally right after accepting the offer of admission. Read more about your financial aid options.


APRIL 2018 

DOMESTIC AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS ONLY

In addition to the Graduate PLUS Master Promisary Note (MPN), students applying for the Graduate PLUS loan are required to complete the Graduate PLUS loan application at Studentloans.gov. Students may begin completing the Graduate PLUS loan application in April. A credit-check (valid for 180 days) is required for the Graduate PLUS. See additional info on Student Loan Administration (SLA)'s website.


If you were accepted as part of our early action or first round of admissions, you'll need to accept your admission and pay your deposit by April 16.


If you were accepted during the second round of admissions, you'll need to accept your admission and pay your deposit by mid-May.


 DEADLINE TO CLAIM YOUR UCHICAGO EMAIL AND CNetID

ALL STUDENTS

Claim your UChicago email and network ID as soon as possible. You will need it to access many of the UChicago systems on this checklist. Staring June 1, 2018 all official Harris and University communications will be sent to your UChicago email. You are responsible for reading all email correspondence.

Note: To claim your UChicago email and network ID, you will need your UChicago ID number, which is an 8 digit number starting with "12." You should have received an email after you paid your deposit providing you with your UCID number. If you do not know your UCID number, please email Admissions, and they will look it up for you.


JUNE 1, 2018 | DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING YOUR TRANSCRIPT

STUDENTS NOT CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A DEGREE PROGRAM OR WHO GRADUATE PRIOR TO JUNE 1, 2018

If you are not currently enrolled in a degree program and have your most recent degree conferral on your transcript, you can submit your official transcript by following these steps if you haven't already done so.

As part of the onboarding process at Harris, we want to know your preferred name – even if it is exactly the same as your official name! This is the name that will be used on your official Harris nametag, the incoming class composite, and other tools you'll use throughout your time at Harris.

If you are currently attending a college or university and are expecting your degree to be conferred this year, you should submit official transcripts by following these steps.


DAY ONE OF THE ACADEMIC ENGLISH PRE-MATRICULATION PROGRAM

SELECT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ONLY

International students who are required to attend this program will be contacted directly by Harris administration and automatically registered.

SELECT MASTER'S STUDENTS ONLY

The Jumpstart Program is a pre-orientation program designed for select incoming master's students. Eligible students will be contacted directly by Harris administration.


DAY ONE OF MATH CAMP

ALL MASTER'S STUDENTS EXCEPT MACRM

This three-week review course is designed to ensure that incoming master's students are prepared for the mandatory math exams held during Welcome Week. (PhD/MACRM students are required to participate in the Mathematical Methods program.)


SEPT 4, 2018 | DAY ONE OF MATHEMATICAL METHODS FOR PhD/MACRM STUDENTS

PHD AND MACRM STUDENTS

All incoming Harris PhD and MACRM students are required to participate in the Mathematical Methods Program.


SEPT 12 - SEPT 14, 2018 | AUTUMN PRE-REGISTRATION PERIOD

ALL STUDENTS

You will be able to rank up to 10 class sections of core courses. At the end of the pre-registration period, you will be automatically registered for your desired courses and selections based on preferences and class availability.


SEPT 17, 2018 | DEADLINE TO COMPLETE TAIS LEADERSHIP STYLE ASSESSMENT

ALL STUDENTS 

The Harris Leadership Development Program has emailed all incoming master’s and PhD students a link to take the TAIS (The Attentional and InterpersonalStyle Inventory) leadership-style assessment.  We will discuss TAIS and you will be given your results in a workshop scheduled on September 27, 2018 during Welcome Week.  


WELCOME WEEK AND REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES

ALL STUDENTS

Start the year off right with Welcome Week and multiple community-building and professional development opportunities for all incoming students. 

During Welcome Week, you will also register for any classes you were unable to get during pre-reigsration. Your Academic Advisor will provide more details in advance of registration as well as during Welcome Week.


REQUIRED MATH EXAMS

ALL MASTER'S STUDENTS EXCEPT MACRM

All incoming Harris master's students with the exception of those in the MACRM program will take theses mandatory exams on the first day of Welcome Week. Make sure you're prepared!


DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING PROOF OF IMMUNIZATION

ALL STUDENTS

All students are required to submit immunization information one week before the first day of the academic quarter. You will receive information soon about immunization requirements and instruction for submitting documentation. In the meantime, you can learn more about the immunizations required for enrollment.

ALL STUDENTS

The online orientation modules are designed to introduce you to all the information, resources, and systems you need to know to find success as a graduate student. Complete them at your own pace, on your own schedule.

OCT 19  | DEADLINE TO CONFIRM/WAIVE STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE

ALL STUDENTS

All registered students are required to have health insurance and must enroll in or waive the University Student Health Insurance Plan (U-SHIP). If you have existing insurance coverage, you can waive out of U-SHIP by providing proof of alternate comparable coverage during the enrollment period. More information will be available in June.
