Thursday, November 5–Saturday, November 7 join the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy for our annual Diversity Day programming!

Diversity Day is an opportunity for you to connect with current students and alumni, engage with faculty, and learn about the support offered at Harris for underrepresented and first generation college students.

Thursday, November 5

Diversity Day Keynote: A Conversation with Valerie Jarrett

6–7 p.m. CST

Please join Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor to the Obama Foundation who led the White House Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs from 2009–17, and a Senior Distinguished Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School, as she delivers the keynote address for the UChicago Harris School of Public Policy 2020 Diversity Days.

During this special evening, Jarrett will discuss how the next generation of civic leaders can drive social change and build a more inclusive and equitable future for our country. Jarrett will be introduced by Sabrina de la Vega, MPP Class of 2021, and interviewed by Senior Associate Dean Ranjan Daniels.

Please join Professor Anthony Fowler for a Diversity Day session—Why Americans Aren't As Polarized or Partisan As You Think. Anthony Fowler's research applies econometric methods for causal inference to questions in political science, with particular emphasis on elections and political representation.

Diversity & Inclusion at Harris: A Virtual Dinner Conversation

4–5 p.m. CST

Join Diversity & Inclusion Assistant Dean Michelle Hoereth and current Harris students in a virtual dinner conversation on social justice, race, and public policy. The dinner table conversations are designed to be informal and provide students with the opportunity discuss, reflect, and learn from each other.

The students that will participate are second year MPPs including Alexis Smyser, Aaron Smoot, Phillipa Paisley, Andrew Cobian, and Dylan Jacovo.

How to Tell Your Story: A Writing Workshop with David Chrisinger

In this hands-on workshop, Harris Writing Program director David Chrisinger will help you organize your lived experiences into a coherent and impactful story you can use in job interviews, scholarship applications, and policy advocacy.
