I’m often asked which school I prefer: Booth or Harris. My answer is usually elusive, narrowly avoiding clichés about apples and oranges. Well, it’s the combination of both degrees that has been so powerful. My experience as a dual degree student has been cohesive and uniquely enriching, drawing on assets at each school. In particular, the educational fit and community between the schools has shaped my experience...

One of the most interesting classes I have taken thus far is Analytical Politics I, taught by professor Ethan Bueno de Mesquita. From analyzing a simple game of chicken all the way to terrorist attacks on airports, I learned not only how to use quantitative models and game theory to determine how people make decisions in response to others, but also to analyze the resulting impacts on the greater good.

When I finished my undergraduate experience I knew that I eventually wanted to go back to graduate school, and specialize in an energy-related field, but I had always assumed that law school was the only option available for an individual with a more qualitative background like myself. A year in Washington, D.C. - and in particular the summer following graduation - exposed me to policy professionals on the Hill, and I became aware that an MPP, not a law degree, had become the new standard within their offices.

Thanks to our Director of Recruitment, Jenny Erickson, for this post!

So, you are interested in two programs – and the application asks you to confirm if you want to be considered for more than one program – perfect, right? We think so, but we know from chatting with students that some think this is an “admissions trick”.

Harris Public Policy Dean Katherine Baicker will be joining her UChicago colleagues at the Institute of Politics for a discussion on the American Healthcare System. One of the best ways to "get to know Harris" is to attend an event or lecture that features our faculty, and get a read on the conversations we are having around various policy movements.

Hello! I am Xiaofan Liu, a second-year MPP student and member of Team Harris. I would love to share a little about my experience in one fantastic Core Course: Decisions and Organizations with Professor Wioletta Dziuda. It is offered every spring. MPP students usually take it during their 3rd quarter, after Analytical Politics I & II.
