Overview

Harris Math & Coding Camp is a three-week review course designed to ensure that incoming Master’s students are proficient in the mathematical and coding concepts needed to successfully navigate the Core Curriculum.

Math & Coding Camp also prepares students for the mandatory Math Exam during Welcome Week. Course work is supplemented with additional orientation programming and community building to ensure that participants have a smooth transition to Harris. Make sure you're prepared for the program and the math exam!

Schedule and Registration

Math and Coding Camp will be held on weekdays, September 3 to September 20, 2024 and will be offered in-person only. The general daily academic schedule is:

  • 9:00-10:00am: Math or Coding Lecture
  • 10:15-11:15am: Math or Coding TA Session
  • 11:15-12:30pm: Lunch
  • 12:30-1:30pm: Coding or Math Lecture
  • 1:45-2:45pm: Coding or Math TA Session

Registration for Math and Coding Camp is now open. Students will have the option to register for either:

  • Math and Coding: students should expect to attend the entirety of Math and Coding Camp, which includes a math lecture, math TA session, coding lecture, and coding TA session each day.
  • Coding Only: students will be expected to attend half of the program each day (coding lecture and coding TA session) and we will communicate the exact times, based on the coding track you select.

Students also have the option of two tracks of coding instruction – Standard Coding or Accelerated Coding.

  • Standard Coding is designed for students who have very little or no experience with coding in R.
  • Accelerated Coding is designed for students who have some exposure to coding in R and covers the same content as Standard Coding but proceeds at a faster pace. Note: students in accelerated coding will have lectures only on select days and TA sessions every day during the program. The exact accelerated coding instruction schedule will be available in late June.

Students who submit their coding self-assessment results will receive a tailored recommendation of which track to select. More information about the self-assessments is below.

The registration link is now open. Register here for Math and Coding Camp!

Math and Coding Self-Assessments

The math and coding self-assessments are tools to help you gauge your current level of mastery and determine whether you should attend Math and Coding Camp as well as what registration option you should choose. In addition, the self-assessments help our staff understand your current skill level and plan academic support for summer programs and Autumn Quarter. All incoming master's students (except MACRM and EMP) should take the math and coding self-assessments by June 10. The Harris Orientation team will follow up with targeted recommendations based on your results and share more information about Math and Coding Camp in late June.
