At the Harris School of Public Policy, our commitment goes beyond the classroom. As a professional school, we’re dedicated to making sure everything you learn—whether in a lecture or a one-on-one coaching session—is immediately applicable in the real world.

The Harris Career Development Office (CDO) equips Harris students with the tools, strategies, and confidence to manage their careers, starting with the first job search after graduation and continuing throughout a lifetime of professional growth.

Personalized Support for Every Step of Your Career Journey

Job searching can be one of the most high-stakes, stressful, and transformative moments in a student’s life. That’s why our team of dedicated Career Coaches is here to help you take the driver’s seat in your career journey.

We don’t just prepare you for your next job—we help you build a lifelong career strategy.

What to Expect from Career Coaching

Our coaches work with you in one-on-one sessions, group settings, and through programming that supports every stage of the career development process.

In an individual session, you’ll:

  • Clarify your goals and areas of interest
  • Dive deeper with thought-provoking questions
  • Set actionable, realistic milestones
  • Build systems of accountability that keep you on track

Topics We Cover

Our coaching is customized to your needs, but common topics include:

  • Networking | Master the most powerful tool in any job search. We’ll help you build meaningful connections and navigate professional conversations with ease.
  • Behavioral Interviewing | Learn how to anticipate common questions, understand what interviewers are really looking for, and craft responses that reflect your unique strengths and experiences.
  • Technical & Case Interviewing | Practice thinking out loud, walking others through your logic, and managing time effectively in a low-pressure environment with expert guidance.
  • Career Mapping | Not sure where to start? We’ll help you explore potential paths, discover your interests, and chart a direction that aligns with your values and long-term goals.
  • Managing Multiple Hiring Timelines | Juggling more than one opportunity? We’ll help you develop a plan to stay organized, communicate clearly, and make confident decisions.
  • Offer Negotiation | Don’t leave money—or opportunity—on the table. Our coaches will help you identify what matters most to you, navigate the negotiation process, and advocate for your value.

Your Career. Your Plan. Our Support.

At Harris, you won’t be navigating your career alone. From day one, you’ll have access to experienced coaches who are here to guide, support, and champion your success—no matter where your policy career takes you.
