Assistant Professor Peter Buisseret Discusses Political Campaigns Against Incumbents

Harris Public Policy Assistant Professor Peter Buisseret was featured on WGN, discussing a possible primary challenge by former Illinois GOP Rep. Joe Walsh against President Trump.

"It's extremely difficult to defeat a sitting President," Buisseret said. "And the presumption at this stage should not be in favor of him achieving that. His goal, I think, if he were seeking to defeat the incumbent, would be to emphasize that on policy grounds, he's not too different, but that on quality grounds or, if you like, character grounds—all of the baggage—he can lighten your load."
