Incoming and current Harris students will have the opportunity to participate in the Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy (GPHAP). The program is known and valued for its interdisciplinary approach to health care management and policy. Students across the graduate schools at the University of Chicago will have the opportunity to receive either a Specialization in Health Administration and Policy or a Specialization in Health Administration and Policy with a Concentration in Global Health.

Nobel laureate Roger Myerson has been appointed the inaugural David L. Pearson Distinguished Service Professor of Global Conflict Studies, joining one of four named professorships within The Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflicts at the University of Chicago. The new appointment is in the Harris School of Public Policy, the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics, and the College.

This month, the University of Chicago community came together to discuss and process the trial and verdict of the 2014 killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke. The week of the verdict, the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration (SSA) hosted panel discussions with UChicago faculty and local media and activists.

Hello readers! The last quarter has finally started for those of us in our second year here at Harris. I wanted to share my last spring break journey as a student with you!

Over this past spring break, I went to Washington D.C. on the career trek with the Institute of Politics (IOP). It wasn’t quite Miami or Cancun, but it was GREAT! And I LOVED IT!

During this past spring break, I participated in a nine-day trip to China sponsored by the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF). I was one of 20 graduate students chosen to participate in this special immersion program focusing on themes of economic reform and global security.

In honor of National Service Recognition Day on April 3, the Harris community came together to honor students, faculty, and staff who are current or former military service members, and those who volunteered from programs in AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and Teach for America.

One of those participants was Ashley Aue, whose stepping stone to public service came while working on conservation efforts in Colorado’s state and national parks.
