The conference takes place from November 17 to November 19. November 15, 2022 Scholars from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and Harris Public Policy’s Crime Lab will be among those convening at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, to discuss the leading public policy and management issues of our time at the 44th annual Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) fall research conference from November 17 to November 19 in Washington, DC. The conference is comprised of super sessions, panels, roundtables, poster presentations, and special events and is designed to encourage substantive interaction among participants. The conference is titled “Advancing Policy Research with Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives,” underscoring the cross-disciplinary nature of public policy, which can bridge economics, law, political science, medicine, and more, and Professor Bruce D. Meyer, Assistant Professor Anjali Adukia, Assistant Professor Dmitri Koustas, the Crime Lab’s Monica Bhatt, and PhD student Angela Wyse will be among those representing Harris. The presentations include: A panel discussion on “Individualization at Scale: Lessons from Scaling Evidence-Based Tutoring Programs - Increasing the Reach of Promising Individualized Academic Supports: Experimental Evidence of a Lower-Cost Technology-Infused Intervention,” featuring coauthor Monica Bhatt, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 12:45 PM - 2:15 PM, on the Concourse Level in the Georgetown East room. “From Retributive to Restorative: An Alternative Approach to Justice,” presented by Assistant Professor Anjali Adukia, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM on the Concourse Level in the Lincoln West room. A panel discussion on “Advances in the Understanding of Entrepreneurship and Informal Work,” with discussant Assistant Professor Dmitri Koustas, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM on the Lobby Level in the Oak Lawn room. A panel discussion on “Take-up and Participation in Social Safety Net Programs - The Income and Safety Net Participation of the U.S. Homeless Population,” with PhD student Angela Wyse, a paper co-written by Professor Bruce D. Meyer, on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM, on the Terrace Level in the Gunston West room. Harris will host a reception on Thursday, November 17 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM, featuring remarks from Professor Meyer. Earlier this year, Harris scholars attended the rescheduled 2021 conference, which took place in Austin, Texas. Faculty Spotlight Bruce D. Meyer McCormick Foundation Professor Bruce D. Meyer, the McCormick Foundation Professor at Harris, studies poverty and inequality, tax policy, government safety net programs such as unemployment insurance, workers' compensation, food stamps, and Medicaid, and the accuracy of household surveys.
