The conference takes place in Austin from March 27 to March 29.

Leading scholars from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy will be among those convening in Austin, Texas, to discuss current and emerging public policy issues at the 43rd annual Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) fall research conference from March 27 to March 29. Originally rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fall research conference offers in-person, virtual, hybrid, and live-streamed sessions.

The conference is titled “The Power of Inclusion: Incorporating Diverse Voices in Public Policy Analysis and Management,” in recognition of the value of increasing the number of professionals from underrepresented groups contributing to the field.

Professor Bruce D. Meyer and Assistant Professor Anjali Adukia will represent Harris’ evidence-based, data-driven approach alongside PhD candidates and staff. The conference aims to connect scholars and practitioners across methodologies, disciplines, and perspectives.

Professor Meyer will host “A Discussion of the Interagency Technical Working Group on Evaluating Alternative Measures of Poverty” alongside Kevin Corinth, discussing their research on consumption-based methods of measuring the poverty rate. And Professor Adukia will present on “What We Teach about Race and Gender: Representation in Images and Text of Children’s Books,” alongside PhD student Emileigh Harrison.

In addition, PhD student Rohen Shah will present “The Changing Geography of Early Childhood Education: Combining Financial Incentives with  Nudges to Increase Preschool Parental Engagement,” which builds on work from the Behavioral Insights and Parenting Lab.

Harris will host a reception on Monday, March 28 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., featuring remarks from Professor Meyer.

Conference attendees are encouraged to stop by Booth 214 to learn more about Harris research, programs and impact.
