Three Girls from Bronzeville: A Uniquely American Memoir of Race, Fate and Sisterhood Tue., February 01, 2022 | 2:00 PM — 3:00 PM Virtual Event 1307 E. 60th Street Chicago, IL 60637 United States We invite you to join us for a special conversation in our webinar series on Transitions. Three girls, living in the same building, growing up in the same neighborhood, seemingly on the same trajectory, with big dreams, and supportive families. But their choices and circumstances resulted in different paths. This is a compelling memoir about “transitions” writ large, from an award-winning journalist and novelist. A former columnist and reporter for the Chicago Tribune, Dawn Turner spent a decade and a half writing about race, politics, and people whose stories are often dismissed and ignored. Turner, who served as a 2017 and 2018 juror for the Pulitzer Prize in commentary, has written commentary for The Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, CBS Sunday Morning News show, NPR’s Morning Edition show, the Chicago Tonight show, and elsewhere. She has covered national presidential conventions, as well as Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential election and inauguration. Turner was a Nieman Journalism fellow at Harvard University, and in 2018, she served as a fellow and journalist-in-residence at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics. Three Girls from Bronzeville was named one of the New York Times and Washington Post’s Notable Books of 2021. Buzzfeed and Real Simple named it a Best Book of 2021. Publishers Weekly described it as “beautiful, tragic and inspiring” and a “powerful testament” to “the importance of understanding the conditions that shape a person’s life choices.” Please join us for an enlightening and inspiring conversation with Dawn Turner on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 2:00 pm CST. Terri Brady, Executive Director of Professional Development at the Harris School of Public Policy, will moderate.
