Evening Master's Program (EMP) - Second Quarter Students

How the autumn quarter core courses will be offered:

PPHA 58002 | Data Analytics II: Program Evaluation

Instructor(s):

The winter 2020 Syllabus can be found on the Harris courses page. The content of this course will be largely the same, but the delivery methods will be different.

Delivery Method:

This course will use a “flipped classroom” model. Each week, students will be asked to watch and engage with a pre-recorded lecture (or a series of short, pre-recorded lectures) totaling 60-70 minutes. These lectures will include a written transcript and will allow students to re-watch material that they are uncertain about as many times as they need. The instructor will provide copies of all slides and materials being covered. The lectures will also be integrated with exercises that will let students self-assess how well they understand the material and pre-feed questions into the live sections.

In addition to the pre-recorded lectures, each student will participate in a weekly 90-minute live section with the instructor (starting at 6pm). These live sections will allow for interaction between students and instructor. All instructor-led live sessions will be recorded and made available to students who miss all or a portion of the class meeting.

PPHA 58101 | Economic Analysis I: Microeconomics

Instructor(s):

The winter 2020 Syllabus can be found on the Harris courses page. The content of this course will be largely the same, but the delivery methods will be different.

Delivery Method:

This course will use a “flipped classroom” model. Each week, students will be asked to watch and engage with pre-recorded lecture modules, totaling roughly one hour per week. These lectures will include a written transcript and will allow students to re-watch material that they are uncertain about as many times as they need. The lectures will also be integrated with exercises that will let students self-assess how well they understand the material and pre-feed questions into the live sections.

In addition to the pre-recorded lectures, each student will participate in a weekly 90-minute live section with the instructor (starting at either 6 or 7:30 depends on student needs). These live sections will include substantial interaction and discussion between students and instructor. Students will also have access to instructor and TA office hours to get specific help. All instructor-led live sessions will be recorded and made available to students who miss all or a portion of the class meeting.

PPHA 59200 | Current Topics in Public Policy II

Instructor(s):

Delivery Method:

This course will use a “flipped classroom” model. Students will be asked to watch and engage with a pre-recorded lecture (60 to 90 minutes) for necessary context for the course. These lectures will include a written transcript and will allow students to re-watch material that they are uncertain about as many times as they need. The lectures will also be integrated with exercises that will let students self-assess how well they understand the material and pre-feed questions into the live sections.

In addition to the pre-recorded lecture, students will participate in a live session that will run between 3-4 hours on a Saturday during the quarter. The live session will allow for further review of the research material as well as an opportunity for small group break-out sessions. Each small group will be responsible for presenting their findings and conclusions at the end of the session. All instructor-led live sessions will be recorded and made available to students who miss all or a portion of the class meeting.
