From the Atlantic Council May 07, 2019 Mahmoud Abouelnaga Harris Graduate Student Mahmoud AbouelnagaObama Foundation Scholar Mahmoud Abouelnaga MAIDP Class of 2019 was featured in MENASource, a project of the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East, with an opinion piece that shows the urgency of an interconnected approach to climate policy through details of how forecasted climate change will continue to destabilize the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region through food insecurity, economic burdens, conflict-induced migration, and other consequences. "While the world may have focused on stability in the MENA region for decades in an effort to guarantee a regular supply of oil and gas, climate change is projected to disrupt this supply even further," Abouelnaga wrote. "Through heavy dependence on imports, increasing water scarcity, and further risks on domestic agriculture, the MENA region finds itself more dependent on what happens elsewhere in the world."
