As an expert on the the separation-of-powers and American political institutions, especially the presidency, Dr. Howell’s insights are invaluable for anyone hoping to learn more about our government and how to effect change on a wide scale. Throughout the evening, we’ll discuss how a document written in the late 1700s continues to dictate politics in 2017, and question to what extent polarization and hyper-partisanship are really to blame for the problems we as a country face today.

About the Speaker

William Howell is the Sydney Stein Professor in American Politics at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and a professor in the Department of Political Science and the College. He has written widely on separation-of-powers issues and American political institutions, especially the presidency. He currently is working on research projects on Obama's education initiatives, distributive politics, and the normative foundations of executive power.
