May 28, 2025 Provost Katherine Baicker, the Emmett Dedmon Professor at HarrisKatherine Baicker, provost of the University of Chicago and Emmett Dedmon Professor and former dean at the Harris School of Public Policy, has been named the 2025 recipient of the William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research. This award, jointly presented by the Baxter International Foundation and the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), recognizes significant contributions to research in the field of health service delivery. Provost Baicker will be formally honored on June 18, 2025, during AUPHA’s Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio. Baicker is a leading scholar in the economic analysis of health care policy. Her research focuses on the effectiveness of public and private health insurance, including the effects of health system reforms on the distribution and quality of care. She has led large-scale studies such as the Oregon Health Insurance Experiment, and her work has been published in prominent journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Health Affairs, JAMA, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. Before her current role as UChicago provost, Baicker served as dean of Harris Public Policy for five years. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Social Insurance, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The William B. Graham Prize has been awarded since 2006. Any individual working in a relevant discipline, in the United States or internationally, may receive the prize.
