Harris Public Policy Professor and Deputy Dean Ethan Bueno de Mesquita was featured in the Chicago Tribune, co-writing an op-ed discussing how leaders contribute to public trust in an epidemic by consistently adopting—and thus solidifying—the most safe social norms.

"Even if reduced transmission rates, coupled with testing and contact tracing policies, allow us to return to something resembling normal life, until there is a vaccine, we can expect intermittent flare-ups requiring renewed social distancing," wrote Bueno de Mesquita and his co-author Mehdi Shadmehr. "Each such shift will require us to once again establish a common understanding of a new set of norms."
