Oeindrila Dube, the Philip K. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies in the Harris School of Public Policy

Professor Oeindrila Dube, the Philip K. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies in the Harris School of Public Policy, has been appointed to the newly formed Economic Advisory Council of Anthropic, a leading AI safety and research company. UChicago professors Tomas Philipson, an emeritus faculty member at Harris, and John A. List, an associated Harris faculty member, were also named to the Council.

The Anthropic Economic Advisory Council is composed of a select group of internationally recognized economists who will provide expert guidance on the economic implications of artificial intelligence. The Council will advise on AI’s impact on labor markets, economic growth, and broader socioeconomic systems, contributing to the research agenda for the Anthropic Economic Index—an initiative focused on tracking and understanding AI’s evolving role in the global economy.

Professor Dube is a renowned scholar of political economy, development economics, and conflict. In addition to her role at the University of Chicago, she serves on the board of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), is a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and she co-directs the Socioeconomic Inequalities Initiative at the Becker Friedman Institute.

Professor List is the Kenneth C. Griffin Distinguished Service Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago, and the academic director of the Center for Impact Sciences at Harris. Professor Philipson is the Daniel Levin Professor of Public Policy Emeritus at Harris. Other members of the Council include leading economists from institutions such as MIT, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Virginia, and the London School of Economics.
