August 10, 2024 Marvin Slaughter, MPP'21, is the Illinois African Descent-Citizens Reparations Commission chairperson, a state panel created by 2021 legislation addressing the country-wide racial reckoning. The ADCRC is tasked with a significant mandate, including the eventual creation of a comprehensive report for state lawmakers on the feasibility of reparations for Illinois’ descendants of chattel slavery. "I believe that the commission is working actively to move as fast as we can … making sure we understand what exactly is asked of us, so we can propose things that are both efficient and practical for the state," Slaughter told the Chicago Tribune.
