Her research focuses on development, crime, and building novel data sets on hard to measure phenomena. Her recent work includes mapping criminal organization across Mexican municipalities, the effect of the opioid crisis in competition between organized crime in Mexico, and the relationship between market structure and violence in drug markets. In this talk, she will discuss an empirical model to assess when criminal groups enter a new territory and compete with others, and when such behavior produces violent outcomes.
