Galentine's Reception Wed., February 12, 2020 | 6:00 PM — 8:00 PM Office of Federal Relations 1730 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Suite 275 Washington, DC 20006 United States Sponsored By: Alumni Relations Join Harris alumni in DC for the fourth annual Galentine’s Networking Reception to celebrate women empowerment. This year we will be featuring Shakti, a nonprofit led by Meghana Chandra, MPP'18 and Mariana Botero, MPP'19, MBA'19. Shakti is the recipient of Booth’s Social New Venture Challenge 2018 second place award and Best India Team award by Tata Trusts. Shakti empowers women in India to understand and enforce their rights, and enables them to access existing legal and public health resources. The team provides women the information they need in a language and format that they can understand so they can have a greater sense of control when their rights are violated. Shakti uses mobile-based platforms, such as WhatsApp and automated phone calls, to convey legal information about domestic violence, stalking, and rape in simple terms and in local languages so everyone, regardless of their literacy levels, can understand their rights, assess their legal options, and reach existing services providers in their city. This event marks the launch of Shakti’s crowdfunding campaign, and the team invites you to join the discussion about bridging the gender-justice divide and to support their impact. Please RSVP by February 9. This event welcomes both Harris women and men!
