Dr. Chishti is a researcher and practitioner specializing in post-conflict peacebuilding with a regional focus on Afghanistan. She is a lecturer at Harris Public Policy and was formerly director of the Hague Appeal for Peace at the United Nations office. Her talk entitled: "Policy to Practice: Reflections on Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security" will explore some of the opportunities and challenges of international diplomacy and aid programming to advance gender, peace and development goals in war-affected states. Dr. Chishti will share her personal experience working at the UN to help draft and lobby for SCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, a historic document addressing the disproportionate impact of war on women and the centrality of women’s participation in the peace process - from peace negotiations to peacebuilding. Drawing from her work experience in Afghanistan, Dr. Chishti will explore some of the positive developments as well as the limitations and constraints to implementing gender and peace reforms.
