From the Wall Street Journal August 06, 2018 Bruce D. Meyer and James X. Sullivan Professor Bruce D. MeyerHarris Public Policy Professor Bruce D. Meyer and coauthor James X. Sullivan wrote an article in The Wall Street Journal, discussing the success of U.S. welfare programs – and why partisans on both sides of the aisle fail to admit the programs have been a success. "Fighting poverty requires knowing its extent and among whom it is most severe," Meyer and Sullivan said. "Modern antipoverty efforts should promote self-sufficiency. This can be accomplished through work requirements, as well as by helping low-skilled individuals find jobs, offering public employment in targeted cases and helping low-income parents secure child care." The article was tweeted out by the White House: "Hardly anyone wants to admit America is beating poverty," Bruce Meyer and James Sullivan write. But the latest @WhiteHouseCEA report "tells the truth."
