About the Speaker

Melanie Shaker is a Director in US Public Finance at S&P Global Ratings. As Relationship Manager for the Midwest, Melanie is responsible for outreach to rated entities and business development for the region.

Melanie’s experience includes positions in both the public and private sectors. Serving as Chief Financial Officer of City Colleges of Chicago as well as Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the Chicago Board of Education, Melanie’s most recent duties relate to her role as a municipal advisor for Chicago area governments. She trained as a rating analyst concentrating on Midwest issuers for the first seven years of her career. Melanie is a member and former President of Women in Public Finance, and received the organization’s Rising Star award in 2011. She is active in the Government Finance Officers Association and other public finance organizations.

Melanie received her Master’s of Public Policy from the Irving B. Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago. She received her Bachelor’s of Arts from DePaul University in 2001. Melanie holds the Series 50 Municipal Advisor certification, received in 2016.
