NBC News quoted Harris faculty lecturer Jake Braun, leader of DEF CON Project Franklin, in a piece about the aims of the project to create an annual "Hackers Almanack" as a resource for policymakers and technicians and to recruit volunteer hackers to help protect critical infrastructure, including water systems and public schools. 

We find a utility or school district that’s interested, we find somebody who makes sense to be their volunteer, but then we stay involved for like a month or two to help them figure out what to ask for,” Braun said
