Despite the signing of the 2016 Havana Peace Accords between the Colombian government and the FARC, some Afro-Colombian communities have continued to experience high levels of violence and insecurity. By some accounts, violence and assassinations targeting human rights defenders have even intensified in the Pacific and Southwest regions of Colombia.

Please join The Pearson Institute for a discussion on participation and inclusion in Colombia's post-accord implementation. Anthony Dest, former member of the Washington Office on Latin America's Colombia Project, and Yanilda González, Professor at SSA, will discuss how racial dynamics have affected Colombia's internal conflict and how this legacy is affecting the prospects of building an inclusive peace.

This event is held in collaboration with the University of Chicago Colombia Working Group and the Pozen Family Center for Human Rights.
