Less than a year ago I was in your position, considering a summer program in the United States. Today, because of the University of Chicago Data and Policy Summer Scholar Program, I am excited to apply to full-time graduate programs in the U.S. I want to share with you the reason why I chose the Data and Policy Summer Scholar Program – and why I’m glad I did.
I chose this program because the University of Chicago has such a strong reputation for combining rigorous econometric methods with thorough study of the impact of substantive and understanding substantive policy issues. As a researcher at the University of Hong Kong, I wanted to advance these econometric methods and apply them in a real-world setting.
Through the capstone research project with Professor Austin Wright, I was able to apply the methods myself. One of the things I enjoyed most about the research project was being able immediately to implement concepts we learned in the classroom. I loved the idea that one day we were learning about the econometric techniques, and the next, we were using them in a real-world data stat.
Ultimately, this allowed me not only to equip myself with techniques that I will use, but also to understand data in a very measurable way.

If, like me, you’ve ever wanted to do good in the world, I strongly urge you to apply for the UChicago Data and Policy Summer Scholar Program — and to get ready for the many opportunities it offers. Check out the upcoming webinars to know more!
