Harris Public Policy Writing Program Director David Chrisinger was featured in The New York Times Magazine with an article in which he discusses the evolution of D-Day coverage by journalist Ernie Pyle, who first impressed upon his readers how difficult the victory was to attain and then transitioned to showcasing the gore of the invasion's death toll.

"By allowing the objects he saw in the sand to tell an eloquent story of loss, Pyle showed his readers the true cost of the fighting, without explicitly describing the blood and mangled bodies," Chrisinger wrote. "'It extends in a thin little line, just like a high-water mark, for miles along the beach,' Pyle wrote about the detritus of the battle."
