The creative mind behind The Redprint: Rhyme and Reason in the Riddle Kingdom, Andrew Dougherty (“Big Daddy Dough”) is a China economist by day and a hip-hop wonk by night. His latest concoction is a 21-track mix of Sinohiphopfunkaliciousness. The parody hip-hop album, which dropped in early 2017, rhapsodizes about the various facets of the contemporary Chinese political and economic scene, from fixed-asset investment to leadership succession, not least of which the sensational and nostalgia-ridden “Beijing State of Mind.” Dougherty’s career has spanned Asia and financial markets. He is currently Asia research director at the Capital Group, one of the world’s largest actively managed mutual funds. Based in Capital’s Beijing office since 2009, Dougherty is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Russian. He received a BA in economics and international affairs from George Washington University and an MPhil in modern Chinese studies from Cambridge University.Friday, May 19, 20171:15 to 2:30 pmLogan CenterPerformance Penthouse, 9th Floor 915 E. 60th St. Chicago, Illinois Boxed lunches will be provided to registered guests.
