Ariel Kalil

Ariel Kalil
Professor and Director of the Center for Human Potential and Public Policy (CHPPP
)

The environments children experience at an early age help determine their acquisition of cognitive and socio-emotional skills and ultimately their adult success. Most public policy and other programs designed to narrow the gap for these crucial skills between economically advantaged and disadvantaged children have been limited in their effectiveness. Behavioral science offers a new approach to narrowing the skills gap, one which can help parents overcome the cognitive biases that often impede their own ability to follow through on their well-intentioned parenting decisions. Ariel Kalil, Harris Public Policy Professor and Co-Director of the Behavioral Insights and Parenting Lab (BIP Lab) at The University of Chicago, will speak about new work at the BIP Lab at the intersection of behavioral science, parent engagement, and child development.
