He received his PhD in Politics from the University of California Santa Cruz, where his dissertation explored how public engagement is used to govern research into emerging climate intervention technologies, using solar geoengineering as a case. As an interdisciplinary social scientist, he pursues question-driven research aimed at supporting assessment and engagement processes for emerging technologies. Specific lines of his research explore the relationship between governance and public engagement, capacity building, and public perceptions research.
