Academic Advisor

About Eman Alsamara

Eman Alsamara is an Academic Advisor on the Student Affairs team at Harris Public Policy. In this role, she advises students on academic matters in order to support them in achieving their goals and enhance the student experience.

Eman has worked in a variety of roles related to education, student programming, and student engagement. Prior to joining Harris, she worked at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate criminology, law, and justice courses focused on criminological theory for over 100 students during her graduate studies from 2018 to 2019. She also served as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate intermediate and advanced Arabic language courses from 2015 to 2018. She held two roles at the Arab American Cultural Center which is the first cultural center serving Arab Americans on a college campus in the United States. As Communications and Social Media Director, she organized and planned cultural and social events with over eight student organizations on campus and in the Chicagoland area while representing the cultural center. Eman also collaborated with other centers under the Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change (CCUSC) to develop programming to serve the needs of students at UIC while fostering cultural diversity. As a Research Assistant, she aided in the construction and development of the first survey targeted at understanding the needs of Arab American students on campus to ensure a fulfilling and affirming college experience in addition to creating an archive surrounding Arab American engagement which highlighted the importance and work of alumni and students during their educational studies. 

Eman holds a BA degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago with minors in Political Science and Public Policy in 2018 and is a graduate of the accelerated Masters in Public Administration program with a concentration in Public Policy also from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Eman has a passion for social justice and fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion in higher education.
