About Abhilash Mishra

Abhilash Mishra is the Director of the new Kevin Xu Initiative on Science, Technology, and Global Development, where he is leading a research program focused on design of development policies in an era of unprecedented technological progress.

His work aims to inform policies that improve STEM learning outcomes in developing countries, with a focus on India. His research focuses on the design and evaluation of low-cost STEM education interventions. He combines empirical evidence, field experiments, and economic theory to design more effective policies that improve STEM learning outcomes. He led the design and evaluation of India’s first STEM teacher-residency program. He is the founder of the independent nonprofit Science for All (www.science-for-all.org).

Abhilash trained as a physicist and holds a PhD in astrophysics from Caltech and a master’s degree in physics from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. As a social entrepreneur, he was recognized as one of the top 20 emerging social entrepreneurs incubated by the Clinton Global Initiative.
