What is AEPA and how do I take AEPA?

The Academic English Proficiency Assessment (AEPA) is an alternative TOEFL or IELTS language assessment. It is offered through UChicago's Office of Language Assessment. AEPA is a 30-minute one-on-one phone conversation. The AEPA includes a $70 non-refundable assessment fee.

Step 1: Request the AEPA registration via application system and pays for the fee online.

In the "Supplement" section of the application, on the "Test Scores" page, please choose “I need to request to take the AEPA as part of my application documents”. Once you save the section, the system will receive your request and our staff will proceed your request for AEPA.

There is a $70 non-refundable assessment fee charged by the University of Chicago Office of Language Assessment (OLA). The fee will appear on the application and is payable in the online application.

Step 2: The University of Chicago Office of Language Assessment contacts you to take the test

Once your AEPA request is received, you will receive a registration email from the Office of Language Assessment (languageassessment@uchicago.edu) in 7 work days to complete the AEPA registration. Please make sure that you add this email address to your contacts so that it does not go to your spam folder. It is your responsibility to respond to the email and schedule the assessment before the application deadline.

Step 3: Take the test and submit the application online

Once you have finished the AEPA, you can submit your application online as completed.
