New Faculty Announcement: Dr. Karlyn Gorski

Headshot of Karlyn Gorski

For the last few years, as Head Preceptor and in other roles, Sociology graduate student Karlyn Gorski has contributed mightily to the Public Policy major. We are pleased to announce that she has completed her PhD in Sociology and is now officially Dr. Gorski! One of her last acts prior to becoming Dr. Gorski was receiving the prestigious Wayne C. Booth Prize for Excellence in Teaching, for outstanding instruction of UChicago undergraduate students.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gorski is now Professor Gorski, having accepted a full-time position at the Harris School to commence her post-PhD academic career in our major. Students will see Professor Gorski – an expert in education policy with publications in leading education journals as well as an award-winning teacher – in some of our Windows offerings (including an Autumn 2022 practicum course on urban education), BA Project Seminars, and Policy Implementation. And for potential Public Policy majors who are wondering what sort of career opportunities are available for Public Policy graduates of the University of Chicago, “professor” is one of them: Karlyn Gorski not only helps our current students write excellent BA theses, she wrote one herself, when she capped off her undergraduate career at the University of Chicago in 2014 as a double major in Public Policy and International Studies. Welcome back, and welcome home, Professor Gorski!
