Associate Director of Career Development, Nonprofit Sector Relations
Though Adam McGriffin has had a varied career, making a difference has always been central in his life. Whether planning initiatives, directing strategies, or executing programs, his emphasis on improving the status quo has led to measurable results. Prior to joining the University of Chicago Adam served as the Global Partnership and Government Relations Manager for Lions Club International, the world's largest service club organization. Adam's primary focus was on building connections with organizations around the world, including the U.S. Congress, international corporations, governments, and NGO's. Previously, holding simultaneous roles as Manager of AmeriCorps/Veterans Affairs and Older Adult Services Coordinator for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Adam directed all aspects of both programs. The move to AmeriCorps was a natural transition because he had successful completed his own year prior, serving as Homeland Security Disaster Liaison, Mitigation VISTA, for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago. Before entering the business and nonprofit worlds, Adam had been a Firefighter and Paramedic in Illinois and Indiana. Along with his day-to-day responsibilities of enforcing safety policies/procedures and training employees, Adam was twice recognized for his outstanding service. In 2014, Adam was appointed by the Illinois governor as a Commissioner on the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. He also serves on the Illinois Advisory Committee of the United States Global Leadership Coalition. Adam holds a BA from Purdue University and a MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
