Are you interested in working in Washington, DC?

Please join the Student Advisory Board and IOP virtually on Monday, February 14 at 6:30 p.m. CT to listen and learn from a panel of current UChicago students who have worked or interned in Washington, DC. You will learn how to position yourself for success in our nation's capital.

The panel for this virtual event will include:

Sylvie Spewak is a 2nd year MPP student at the Harris School. Sylvie was a Legislative Assistant in the House of Representatives serving the Chairman/Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice, and Science. She managed a broad legislative portfolio including health care, education, and finance, managed a national grant program through the Department of Education, and attempted (but failed) to overturn the budget neutral provision of the Affordable Care Act risk corridor program. After the Hill, Sylvie became the Director of Strategic Outreach for the Wharton Public Policy Initiative, where she helped create a pipeline of novel research between Penn and policy makers in Washington.

Christie Ibaraki is a 2nd year MS CAPP student at the Harris School. Prior to joining CAPP, Christie was a data scientist/technologist at US Citizenship and Immigration Services, working on building software to support adjudication in the refugee and asylum directorate. Before joining the federal government, Christie worked as a data scientist at Accenture, consulting to a variety of DHS agencies.

Michael Wilt is pursuing a master's degree in International Relations at UChicago with a focus on international conflict and alliances. Michael is a graduate from Cedarville University with a bachelor's degree in political science. While at Cedarville, Michael interned for the Speaker of the House in Washington, DC for a semester, was a member of the AEI Executive Council program on campus, and was involved in local politics. Upon graduation, Michael worked for a year as a staffer for Senator Portman in his Cincinnati, Ohio office. Michael then worked for the Department of Justice in Columbus for over a year on national security cases.

Hope to see you virtually there on Monday, February 14 at 6:30 PM Central Time.
