About Emma Richardson

Emma Richardson is the Student Recruitment Specialist at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, where she does all things outreach and recruitment for domestic students. Emma is a one-stop shop for questions about the admissions and intake process, and genuinely loves to chat with prospective students about Harris, Chicago (“the greatest city in the world”), and the city’s diverse neighborhoods, cultures, and attractions. Emma is a graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges with a BA in English and political science.

“I’m an animated person who loves to meet new people and discuss topics that I’m passionate about. I deeply care about everything that Harris is doing: the events, the faculty, the speakers. I was very intentional about choosing to work here.”

What is your favorite book?

To Kill a Mockingbird. I’ve read it every three summers since I was 12 years old. I am always in a different place when I read it and get something different out of it.

When is the last time you felt inspired?

Bill Clinton spoke at my college graduation. He talked about our shared world and the responsibility we have to one another. That meant a lot to me.

What’s something quirky about you?

I come from a big family and we did a lot of road trips in a mini-van. I’ve been to almost all 50 states, except four. My favorite road-side attraction is the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota, which is an enormous palace made of corn.
