In addition, AmeriCorps and Teach For America applicants receive preferential consideration and a waived application fee. And they will also be considered for additional merit awards.

About the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit offered by AmeriCorps to individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs, such as AmeriCorps VISTA, AmeriCorps NCCC, or AmeriCorps State and National.

The education award may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions (including Harris) or to repay qualified student loans.

The dollar amount of a full-time education award is tied to the maximum amount of the U.S. Department of Education's Pell Grant. Since the amount of a Pell Grant can change from year to year, the amount of an education award can vary from year to year. However, once a member earns an award, the dollar value of that particular award will not increase.

As of October 1, 2016, AmeriCorps members can earn up to $5,815. Currently, AmeriCorps members may earn up to the value of two full-time education awards and have seven years from the date they earned each award to use it.

Harris Public Policy will always match your Segal award dollar for dollar, reducing your investment by doubling your award.

Award amounts for part-time terms of service vary based upon the length of the required term of service. The AmeriCorps website offers more information on the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award and the amount for which you may qualify based on your service.
