The Summer Internship Fund has now closed and will not reopen for summer 2024. Applied candidates will receive their selection information on May 1 by end of day.

Please note, due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to provide specific feedback based on the final selection. Any candidate who did not receive funding should consider the IOP General Fund, which offers up to $2500 on a first-come, first-served basis until it runs out. We can empathize with the financial burden associated with an unpaid internship, and encourage candidates to continue to apply for paid positions. You can also make an appointment with a career coach on HarrisLink to discuss communicating your situation to your employer in a request for funding or advocating the transition to remote, which may be more financially feasible.

Summer internships are a critical component in your professional development - a chance to use your new skills towards real-world problems. Our goal is to help you pursue career options geared toward social impact while working to mitigate the stress of financial barriers. Each summer, thanks to generous donations and support from alumni and UChicago donors, we at The Career Development Office (CDO) are proud to support the Harris Summer Internship Fund, which offers eligible students the opportunity to apply for a one-time stipend for unpaid internships in the non-profit and public sectors.

The fund will be offered on a competitive basis through an online application process that evaluates internship objectives, goals, and logistics based on an offer letter and short-answer responses you provide. View the Internship Funding Application Rubric.
