The International Staff Engagement Program, led by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, is designed as a communal learning journey to develop innovative and effective leadership and administrative practices and program development within your organization.

We have designed each day with customized group activities focusing on one of the four modules:

Pre-Program

Orientation and settling down. Our staff will support your arrival logistics and provide you with welcome and orientation materials to get ready for the program!

Day 1: Get to Know UChicago

Get a holistic view of the University of Chicago by joining us in an intensive full-day on-campus experience.

Hear about the history of the university while joining the classic walking tour. Meet with select academic leaders, students and staff from UChicago's various schools, divisions and offices such as UChicago Global, UChicagoGRAD, etc.

Day 2: Interdisciplinary Approach in Action

As one of the core elements at the university, the interdisciplinary approach has been widely applied and further developed with examples from research initiatives within the school, to cross-school and cross-discipline research centers such as the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) and the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

We invite you to sit down with the administrative head and key staff members of these centers and learn about the mission, structure, process and foundation of how to make an interdisciplinary center work, from aspects ranging from faculty engagement and service, project and team management, resource mapping, strategic planning, etc.

Day 3: Running a School to Serve Students

Representatives from the Harris School of Public Policy Senior Leadership Team and key staff members will share insights into their role and responsibilities, challenges faced, and solutions created. The speakers will be from the areas of student recruitment, academic student life, career development office, finance, marketing, faculty appointment etc.

As a leader in your own institution, we also invite you to share your experience and learnings.

Day 4: Leadership Development & Other Opportunities

Leadership development is a life-long journey that takes not only experience, but also a growth mindset, empathy and plenty of knowledge on people development.

In the first half of the day, we invite you to join with a faculty member at the university focusing on leadership development theories and practices.

The second half day is open to any units/schools to showcase their programs and people and connect with you to advance the conversations that have been cultivated during the week.
