Education is one of the most critical levers we have to transform the life trajectories of young people—especially low-income students of color. Sara Ray Stoelinga, AB’95, AM’01, PhD’04, will discuss key issues in urban schooling and school reform, such as inequities in school funding, the challenges faced by low-income families, school choice, and school accountability policies. Stoelinga will examine these themes through stories of students, classrooms, schools, and districts, drawing upon more than two decades of experience as a leader in urban education. These stories will illuminate some of the most pressing challenges facing urban schools, the work of the Urban Education Institute, and reasons to be hopeful about the future of public education in America.
