Join the UChicago Center for Effective Government for a series of two scholarly panel events on Monday, April 26 and Tuesday, April 27 to explore and elevate research on school board governance.

The first event of the series on Monday, April 26 will focus on School Board Accountability and Student Outcomes and will feature the following panelists:

·       William Howell, University of Chicago (moderator)

·       Christopher Berry, University of Chicago

·       Rebecca Jacobsen, Michigan State University

·       Vladimir Kogan, Ohio State University

·       Domingo Morel, Rutgers University, Newark

·       Jessica Trounstine, University of California Merced

The panel will discuss questions such as:

To whom are school board members held accountable? For what are they held accountable? What is currently known about the political structure of school boards—appointed versus elected, ward versus at-large elections—and student outcomes? What roles do money, electoral incentives, and oversight and accountability mechanisms play in the production of student outcomes?
