Course Description:

PPHA 36940 studies the strategic behavior and regulation of firms in oligopoly markets, where competition is imperfect. We will examine topics such as unilateral exercise of market power, mergers, price discrimination, collusion, and network economics. We will frequently investigate recent business and regulatory case studies, such as the California electricity crisis and net neutrality regulation. An important component of the course will be the Competitive Strategy Game, in which students will form firms that compete against one another in several simulated markets.
